Writing Tools

These are a few sites and places that have helped me enormously. Some all year round and others specifically for NaNoWriMo.

yWriter
This is the current software that I'm using. It's free and doesn't have a low limit for the text for each scene and has many of the similar features as Storybook.

How To's by Holly Lisle
This site is amazing. Holly is a professional writer and has put out a number of free how-to's on her site. everything to generating your own map with back story to character and plot building. Hands down my go-to site when I'm stuck!

Scribophile

An online community of writers who post with the intent of having their work seriously critiqued by other members of the writer community. Totally awesome!

Punish Pad
This is modeled after Dr. Wicked's Write or Die. It certainly helps me get the most amount of words written per minute since it punishes you if you slack off!

NaNoWriMo Report Card
This is great if you have Open office or Microsoft Word. It's made for NaNo but I think you could use it any time as long as you set yourself a deadline or word count goal.

Timeline Management by TimeGlider
I haven't used this yet but it seems really neat. I think the big selling point for me will be if I can print it out!

Storybook
A great open source writing software that has many of the features and sometimes more than the expensive paid versions!
